1972 Ford Escort Special

Sold for £25,312

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: DAD422K
Chassis No: BBATMG17130
Mot Expiry: April 2005

The Escort, particularly the Mk1, was a winner for Ford in the showroom as well as, with the eventually 2-litre capacity BDA underbonnet, on the rally special stages and racing circuits of the world. Offered here is a 1972-dated Escort, however, which has to be unique. For not only has the right-hand drive two-door been rebuilt to British Touring Car racer standards, but the four-cylinder Ford engine so familiar to millions of commuters has been changed for a TVR sourced 5-litre V8.
Weighing in at a claimed to be just 1000 kilograms in total, with a said to be 50/50 weight distribution, this package is, in the owner's words, "entertaining". Indeed, the very high standard of this unusual conversion has to be seen in the metal to be appreciated fully.
The eight-cylinder engine has a cross-bolted crank and has been dry-sumped and exhausts through a stainless steel system. Transmission is via manual gearbox with five forward speeds and limited slip differential. Steering is power-assisted, front suspension adjustable and rear consists of five links
with coil-over-dampers and Watts linkage. AP brakes are over-size front and rear with adjustable brake bias facility. Safety mods include integrated and multi-point custom roll cage, fuel cell within a steel box and fire system.
The vendor claims that bodyshell, blue paintwork, alloys and black cloth trim are all in very good condition, whilst motor, transmission and electrical equipment are also all reportedly in very good order. This quite extraordinary and extremely good looking 5-litre Escort with DAD 422K registration has a current MOT.
