Lot details Registration No: 783 FDH Chassis No: AN510476E Mot Expiry: March 2004
As confirmed by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate in the history file, this Austin-Healey MkI Sprite - a destined for the home market and therefore an original right hand drive car - left the end of the production line on 29th January 1959 and was dispatched to Birmingham dealers John Bryant and Sons Limited on the 26th February of that year. The ex-factory spec for AN5/10476 included rev counter, tonneau, heater, laminated windscreen, windscreen washer, locking petrol cap and front bumper.
We understand from the Midlands owner that the practical 2-seater was in receipt of a comprehensive refurbishment in 2000, since when it has only been dry weather exercised. Included is a photo record of this restoration as well as most receipts detailing work carried out and old MOTs. Happily the sports-car is presented in the original colour combination of Old English White with Cherry Red interior and the 783 FDH registration, issued in period in Walsall, is happily still on the car and V5 today. Hood and tonneau are in black and, usefully, a white hardtop is also included.
Current body, paintwork and trim condition is described as being good, whilst the 948cc 4-cylinder BMC A Type engine, said to have been reconditioned, and 4-speed manual gearbox are also reportedly in good order. The 90,962 mileage displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to the genuine total from new for this delightful and period-correct 'Frogeye' with that cheeky smile.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
