In keeping with many of the other Mercedes-Benz model series, the new CLK-Class in 2002 was able to bear the three-letter mark of sporting prowess AMG. The package promised superlative power delivery and outstanding handling as well as a list of equipment that positively exuded exclusivity. Topping the new CLK range was a V8 model that delivered performance on a par with a typical sports car; the CLK 55 AMG produced an impressive 362bhp which could propel this stylish sports cabriolet to 60mph in just 5.2 seconds. Further features that made the flagship CLK-Class sports model really stand out included a special AMG body styling for the front apron, rear apron and side skirts not to mention the 18" AMG alloy wheels and the AMG exhaust system with twin tail pipes.

The CLK 55 AMG was a rare and high-performance car powered by a hand assembled, 5.4 litre, V8 engine inscribed by the individual engineer who built the unit. Production was in Bremen, Germany. There were only a few hundred cars built each year from 2002 to 2006 and most examples were exported to the USA with only a handful ended up on these shores.

This example was manufactured in 2003, being first UK registered in March that year, and is understood to have cost £63,350 when new including optional extras. Factory extras included electric glass sunroof; electric rear roller blind; keyless go; Parktronic; and a COMAND System. The CLK 55 has covered only 4,321 miles from new at the time of consignment and has had only three former keepers.

The AMG is accompanied by twelve MOT certificates, several past invoices and a current V5C. Further supplied with the book-pack comprising certificate of conformity; dealer directory book; car care leaflet; related owner’s manuals and service book. The service book shows five total entries, four handwritten entries (at the mileage of 635 miles in 2003; 1,948 miles in 2011; 1,955 in 2012; and 2,388 in 2016), with one further stamp evident from Mercedes-Benz specialists Hart Motors in 2020 at 3,552 miles.
