Lot details Registration No: OHO490T Chassis No: FH1317110 Mot Expiry: March 2005
To counter the Austin-Healey Sprite budget sportscar from their arch rivals BMC, Triumph rushed out the Spitfire, which was an open 2-seater version of the Herald saloon, employing the same 1147cc engine, chassis and swing-axle rear suspension. Styled by Michelotti, Spitfire Mks I to V were made 1962 to 1980.
This 1979-built 1500 was restored two years ago. Current condition of separate chassis and body panels are described as good, the Brooklands Green paintwork and black interior being rated as good too. Whilst the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in good order as is the electrical equipment. Tyres and exhaust have been recently renewed.
The 83,700 mileage displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total. With their superb access to all things mechanical, thanks to the entire bonnet section opening up, Spitfires are entirely practical to maintain, affordable to buy too.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
