One of the six Benelli brothers, Giuseppe, left the family firm in 1949 establishing his own marque, initially known as Moto B Pesaro nut subsequently shortened to Motobi. From the outset the machines employed forward facing horizontal cylinders. In 1956, having previously concentrated on two stroke production, the firm introduced two over head valve singles in 125 and 175cc capacities. The machines retained the horizontal cylinder layout of the two strokes and were offered in touring and sporting forms. Following Giuseppe's death in 1957, Motobi was taken over by his sons Marco and Luigi, who, six years later returned to the Benelli fold. Following the merger the ohv single was marketed as a Benelli in a number of capacities throughout the sixties.
The machine offered, a 1968 Benelli Sprite Sport Special of 125cc has recently benefitted from being restored. The engine is described by the vendor as "running faultlessly" and the transmission has been overhauled. The electrical system was rewired where required and is now considered to be in "very good" condition. Where possible the original nuts and bolts were replated or replaced with stainless items and the paintwork has been repainted. The brightwork has been refurbished or replated where required and the suspension overhauled. It is offered with a Swansea V5C.
