1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Sports Tourer

Sold for £45,000

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: YP 312
Chassis No: GUK50
Mot Expiry: July 2014

Originally dispatched by the factory to Park Ward where it was fitted with sporting four-seater coachwork, chassis GUK 50 is understood to have been supplied by Paddon Bros. of Knightsbridge to its first owner - a Mr Sydney Dundavin-Hollingworth of Woking, Surrey in July 1926. Featured in the Daily Mail in January 1959 ferrying debutantes around London when owned by Capt. Michael Elles-Hill, it was fitted with engine number U2J in July of that year. In 1960 it was exported to the USA having been purchased by an American gentleman who had come to England to source a 20hp. He kept it for the next 38 years before deciding he was sadly getting too old for open-air motoring. In the 1990s it benefitted from an engine rebuild by Maryott Engineering of San Marino, California, before being re-imported to the UK by Orchid Cars of Amesbury around 1998.
In the current ownership since 2003, GUK 50 has benefitted from the fitment of a new cylinder head, new sidescreens, new upholstery, replacement of the coil and distributor cap whilst the running boards have been rebuilt and the wings resprayed. The vendor informing us it possesses a good turn of speed and performs very well. A rear auster screen is fitted.
Listed in John Fasal's book of 'The Twenty' and Lawrence Dalton's 'Coachwork on Rolls-Royce 1906-39' this elegant sports tourer with hooped dashboard and distinctively shaped doors has been in the current ownership since 2003 and is accompanied by a Swansea V5 document, three original buff logbooks, a list of owners, original handbook, VSCC Eligibility Document and photocopies of factory build sheets. It is expected to possess a fresh MoT by the sale.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until July 2014.
