Lot details Registration No: 357 UXM Chassis No: HBT714215 Mot Expiry: April 2014
This notably smart-looking 1961 BT7 started life as a left-hand drive model destined for personal export to Canada - the desirable specification included wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering column and a laminated windscreen. Following repatriation in 2005, '357 UXM' was reportedly treated to an extensive 'nut and bolt' restoration, during which nigh-on all components are understood to have been refurbished or renewed and the car converted to right-hand drive. The 'Big' Healey was also uprated in the following respects: the cylinder head was reworked and tuned to run on lead-free fuel; the engine was balanced and equipped with a fast road camshaft, pair of HD8 SU carburettors (as per the BJ8), Denis Welch tubular exhaust manifold and a silencer with twin 2-inch tail pipes. Other modifications included the fitting of a diaphragm clutch, type 16 brake callipers plus servo (as per the BJ8) and amber-coloured rear flasher units for added safety.
The Healey has apparently only been driven in dry conditions since the completion of the restoration and covered just 1000 miles in the eight years concerned. The rest of the time it has been stored in an appropriate environment, as a result the vendor views the bodywork, paintwork and interior trim as "immaculate", the 2912cc six-cylinder engine as being in "excellent condition", and the overdrive gearbox as "as new". Supplied with hood in excellent condition, refurbished side screens and tonneau cover supplied new in 2005. This desirable classic 2+2 is finished in eye-catching Colorado Red and trimmed in Red leather, and comes complete with MOT and tax valid until the end of April 2014. There remains a ready market for good Healey 3000s and it is hard to imagine '357 UXM' failing to find a suitable new home.
