Lot 20 - 1955 Triumph TR2

1955 Triumph TR2

Estimated at £14,000 - £16,000

Lot details
Registration No: RSU 291
Chassis No: TS/6999
Mot Expiry: June 2005

This TR2 was first made at the sadly long gone Triumph works at Canley in Coventry in 1955 and, we understand, was an overseas resident for some time. In recent years, however, the Midland sportscar, nowadays in right-hand drive, has been fitted with a more powerful 2.2-litre motor as has been the case with many of the early postwar Triumph sportscars like this.
Cooled by a Kenlowe automatic fan, the engine has been modified to fast road specification and has twin 1¦in SUs, cylinder head modified for unleaded fuel, alloy finned sump, oil cooler and four-into-one manifold and sports exhaust system in stainless steel. Fitted, too is a Laycock A Type overdrive with auto-change kit as are 11ins diameter disc brakes, modified suspension throughout including uprated shock absorbers, 72 spoke wire wheels, uprated TR3 rear axle and alloy differential cover. Rally equipment includes competition bucket seats and full harnesses with attachments to rear roll-over bar, rally timing equipment, full weather equipment including double duck hood, and tow eyes front and rear. According to the paperwork on file, among events successfully tackled has been the 2001 Rally of the Tests.
Current chassis and body are said by the vendor to be in excellent shape, the red paintwork and black leatherette interior also excellent, and 2200cc capacity four-cylinder engine, four-speed manual gearbox with that desirable overdrive as well as electrical equipment all reportedly in excellent order. The current MOT certificate will not need renewing until June, whilst the documents file contains a 1996 issued MSA Competition Car Log Book.
