Further Info:
The smartly-presented Black 14hp Saloon now offered has remained in the care of the same lady owner since 1961, and is described by the vendor as being in `time warp condition'. It comes complete with all its original features, plus a comprehensive service history dating back to 1962. `GWK 490' represents a unique opportunity for Lea-Francis aficionados everywhere. The Lea-Francis company's finest hour was arguably Kaye Don's victory in the 1928 Ulster TT with its exciting supercharged Hyper model. However, it was new management that initiated the 1937 debut of the very different 12 and 14hp models. Of more general appeal, they were powered by Hugh Rose-designed engines that unsurprisingly bore considerable similarity to the 12/4 unit he had created when at Riley. These sporty but luxurious vehicles found popularity despite being on the expensive side and were revived following the war, with the 14hp then taking the lion's share of the sales.
