Regarded by many as the ultimate "headbangers" bike, the RD400 was endowed with the DNA of the companies two stroke road racing twins and represented the ultimate evolution of Yamaha's middleweight air cooled two stroke twin. The RD400 replaced the RD350 during the mid seventies introducing revised styling featuring a coffin style fuel tank and also gained the distinction of being one of the first Japanese production motorcycles to be offered with cast alloy wheels. Vivid acceleration, good handling, excellent brakes and a potential 110mph top speed combined with good looks to ensure the models popularity both on the road and on the track placing it at the top of most riders list in its class until its replacement by the RD350LC.
The example offered, dating from 1977, is finished in blue and described by the vendor as being in good running condition with only 14,071 miles showing on the odometer. The vendor advises us that there is some cosmetic damage to one of the engine cases as a consequence of a broken chain in the past and that the machine is offered Vat and duty paid in the UK.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
