Humber was one of the founding names in the British cycle industry with Thomas Humber producing copies of the French Michaux velocipede in Nottingham in about 1870. He later acquired workshops in Wolverhampton and the Motor City of Coventry.
This right-hand drive Snipe MkIV, bodied as a four-door stretched-limousine to provide seating for seven, first left the by now Rootes family owned Humber works in 1964 and is believed to have only had three owners from new. The vendor believes that the 70,380 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale to be the genuine total mileage for this all numbers matching motor car from new.
Currently, the chassis steel is described as being good, the bodywork fair to good, black paintwork good, wheels and tyres very good, and grey leather interior in need of re-colouring, though it is claimed that there are no tears or holes. The wood within is said to be in very good condition. The 2965cc six shows good oil pressure and both the three-speed automatic transmission and electrical equipment are reportedly in good order. The current MOT will not require renewal until next September.
