Motor Car Location: Derbyshire

  • 1 of less than 10 examples thought to survive
  • Purchased by the current (late) ownership in 2004 and sympathetically restored/recommissioned
  • Five owners from new, the first two being the Lord and Lady Craigmyle
  • Supplied with the original ‘buff’ logbook and continuation book

Morris first used the Isis name on one of its six-cylinder cars from 1929 until 1935, but it wasn’t until well after the Second World War that the name resurfaced. The Series I incarnation ran from 1955 to 1956, notching up 8500 sales. The Series 2 revamp in 1956 – incorporating the updates used on the Oxford – incorporated fins on the rear wings plus the option of an automatic transmission or overdrive on the manual cars. Probably the most attractive variant of the Isis was the wood-panelled Traveller estate, which was built in very small numbers. Nowadays though, any Isis is a rare survivor, but there are thought to be less than ten surviving Isis Travellers.

Manufactured in 1957, the Isis Traveller offered was supplied new to the United Kingdom, being registered new on the 27th of May that year to the Rt. Hon Lady Margaret Craigmyle in Galashiels, Scotland. Passing two years later to the Rt. Hon Lord Thomas Donald Craigmyle, the Isis changed through one subsequent pair of hands before being purchased by the fourth owner in 1962, who then retained the Morris for over forty years. Acquired by the late vendor (equating to just five owners from new) in 2004, ‘LS 6976’ was subject to light restoration/recommissioning and after completion was used for local car shows and steam rallies.

Fitted with the 2639cc straight-six engine allied to the four-speed manual transmission, the Morris is finished in Grey paintwork with Red interior upholstery. In storage for approximately eighteen months following the vendors passing, the Morris has recently received light engine fettling and freeing of the brakes in preparation for sale, however the Morris is likely to require further recommissioning before pressing into road use. Offered with a history file which includes the RF60 ‘buff’ logbook and continuation book, a collection of previous MOT certificates, a picture of ‘as found’ by the vendor, sundry paperwork, and a current V5C document.

Intended purchasers should note that while the Morris was running last month, it will not currently start. A local garage has informed they believe the issue to be an ignition issue but a new coil has not resolved the issue in time for sale.
