The Wolseley 14/60 saloon was launched along with the 16/65 and the 18/85 on the 27th of September 1938. A noticeable difference for the 14/60 is the bonnet louvres now consisting of many small vertical louvres enclosed by three long horizontal strips rather than the four long horizontal louvres of the ‘Series II’. A ‘Jackall’ system was fitted as standard, whereby a hand-pumped hydraulic system could be used to raise the front, rear, or all of the wheels off the ground. Wolseley Phased Suspension was also introduced giving the car a smooth and comfortable ride over bad surfaces or rough roads, by fitting springs of different but finely tuned lengths to the front and rear. Of course, World War Two ceased production, but post-war production re-commenced in 1945, with a total of some 5,700 vehicles manufactured in total.
Manufactured new in 1948, the 14/60 offered was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 9th of February that year. Chassis ‘314/8288’ is finished in Black paintwork with complementary Dark Green leather interior upholstery. Purchased into the current (late) ownership in 2007, the Wolseley has resided in the late vendor's small private collection ever since, being used regularly during the vendor's ownership up until shortly before his passing in February this year and thus, ‘MJO 840’ has not seen use since and will require a degree of recommissioning. A highly original example, the vendor, who was said to have been fastidious about changing head gaskets to avoid failure, had removed the cylinder head shortly before his passing, and it is still removed from the Wolseley today. A worthy recommissioning project, the 14/60 is offered without reserve and is accompanied by invoices relating to maintenance and parts, previous MOT certificates and a current V5C document showing just two former keepers.
