1988 Skoda 130L Sport

Lot details
Registration No: E996BDV
Chassis No: TMB13MOOL53601498
Mot Expiry: March 2012

It is easy to attribute Skoda's latter day popularity to its takeover by the mighty Volkswagen empire, but in fact the brand already had a faithful following in Western Europe, despite the dated nature of some of its products. The fact is they worked, to which 17 consecutive class wins on the RAC Rally are surely as good a testament as one needs. With the intention of capitalising on the '86 and '87 victories by the 130LR model, SK Distributors of Brackley developed a tuned version of the 130L for road use and the resulting Estelle-based Sport was exhibited at the London Motor Show. The salient changes to the engine included: a ported and gas flowed cylinder head, high lift camshaft, balanced crankshaft and flywheel, Dellorto twin choke carburettor plus K&N air filter, and tubular inlet manifold and sports exhaust system. These modifications raised the engine's power output from the standard 55bhp to 75bhp, providing a useful gain in performance and perfect complement to the slick five-speed gearbox. The associated running gear featured lowered and uprated springs and dampers, a front anti-roll bar, trailing rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and Minilite-style alloy wheels. Customers could choose from a range of options including: a full colour-matched bodykit with Works-type 'bathtub' rear spoiler, and a fog lamp-integrated front grille. Inside, the Sport featured Black cloth upholstery, a stereo radio/cassette, Mountney steering wheel and sunroof.

Apparently, 'E996 BDV' is the 46th Sport 130 road car of 222 built by SK Distributors to (broadly) Group N specification, and is believed to be the only Saloon version in daily use - the others being Coupes. It was produced in 1988 and is finished in White matched to Black cloth seats and Grey carpets. This right-hand drive Skoda comes complete with: old MOTs that apparently confirm the indicated mileage of 33,500 miles, period magazine articles, road tests, a history file containing plenty of paperwork proving the car's use and maintenance, and an MOT into March 2012. There is also a box of spares that includes Czech-manufactured front wings, a spare transmission, exhaust manifold, plus various electric and service parts. A rare and interesting car suitable for road or track day use.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
