1974 Jaguar E-Type V12 Roadster

Sold for £54,000

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: GHM 86N
Chassis No: 1S2256
Mot Expiry: T.B.A.

Interest in Jaguar's immortal E-Type was lifted onto a whole new plane by the model's 50th anniversary - a level of attention that shows no sign of waning any time yet. For some, only the raw, sensuous feel of the early 3.8-litre models will suffice, while others opt for their somewhat more refined 4.2-litre siblings. The Series 3 cars are, however, a rather different breed of cat, that rightly have an avid following all of their own - enthusiasts who prefer the model's more muscular pose, more luxurious interior and ride and, above all, that silky smooth V12 powerplant.
This stunning-looking 'home market' Series 3 Roadster sports Heather bodywork teamed with a Biscuit-coloured hide interior and chrome wire wheels shod with white wall tyres. What further sets this particular leaping cat apart from its peers is the rare hard top which comes complete with Weathershield sliding sunroof - this really is an E-Type for all seasons. There have been five keepers to date, the first of whom retained it for three years, the second and third for one year each, the fourth for 16 years, and the fifth from 1995 until now. The mix of service history and no less than 29 old MOT certificates dating all the way back to 1979 are understood to support the notably low indicated mileage of just 32,222. The vendor's current view of the Roadster bodywork, most eye-catching of paint finishes, V12 engine and relatively rare but desirable four-speed manual transmission, is that they are all in "excellent" order, while he describes the very tidy-looking hide interior trim and colour-keyed carpets as "original". 'GHM 86N' is being sold complete with the original handbook, service passport containing some stamps, and the aforementioned sheaf of old MOTs, plus one valid for the coming 12 months. An interesting and apparently very original example.
