Lot details

Chassis No: GHN4185952G
Mot Expiry: May 2011

Replacement for the much-loved and still competitive MG A, the MG B of 1962 took the concept a stage further by adding comfort and refinement to the excellent performance and handling characteristics that had made the A so popular. Of unitary construction unlike its predecessor, the MG B was powered by a 1798cc version of the four-cylinder B-series engine producing 95bhp, giving sprightly performance of 0-60mph in around 11.5 seconds and a top speed of over 100mph, especially when fitted with optional overdrive. Early development saw the introduction of a more robust five-bearing engine in September 1964 and a larger 12-gallon fuel tank in March 1965. The MG B went on to be one of the most successful sports cars ever, with almost 400,000 cars produced over an 18-year production run, and was particularly popular in the US market. Today, it enjoys a very strong following and with its GT sister has spawned a dedicated support industry making it among the most practical and cost effective of all classic cars to own.

Finished in red with black upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment and interior trim. Rating the bodywork and paintwork as "good", he further informs us that between 1989 and 1990 'PMW 684H' was "extensively restored with a new bodyshell including doors, front wings, bonnet and boot at a cost in excess of £13,000. All mechanical parts were reconditioned including the engine, while a new leather interior and chrome wire wheels were fitted (all documentation in history file). Bought by its last elderly owner from Sherwood Restorations the roadster has since been maintained almost regardless of cost with all invoices". He concludes: "This is a lovely car that comes with a huge history file and is ready to drive and enjoy".

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
