Further Info:
Originally finished in Pastel Blue over Black with Blue leather upholstery and supplied new to C.J. Phillips Esq of Eaton Square SW1 and Dalby Hall, Melton Mowbray, chassis GUJ16 remained in his family until after World War Two. Laid-up by his widow in 1937, the Rolls-Royce passed to her nephew, Mr Blount, some eight years later who recommissioned it. Christened the 'Queen Mary' and used for school run duties during the late 1940s, the 20hp was subsequently bought by Lt. J. Roger Gratz of Charleston Air Force Base from Adams & Oliver of Great Geddings in 1957 / 1958 and shipped across The Pond. Afterwards belonging to Mr J. Ciarrocchi, Mr R. Koval and Mr R.D.K. Donohue, it was the latter who stripped the saloon for restoration and got as far as partially fettling its chassis.
Repatriated by renowned marque specialists The Real Car Company during 1990, chassis GUJ16 was sold to the vendor's late father that same year for £13,000. Still wearing the remains of its original Park Ward Light Saloon coachwork (body number 3017) and retaining its factory-fitted powerplant (engine number N9N), the 20hp's rejuvenation was intended to be a retirement project. Having had the ash frame restored by Alwyn R. Lee Coachbuilder of Waters Upton, Shropshire, sundry panel work carried out and the engine partially overhauled by Brunts of Silverdale etc, the vendor's late father ran out of steam with the project. Kept garaged on axle stands, this handsome Rolls-Royce is surely worthy of completion.
