Lot details Registration No: G605UMB Chassis No: WBABA910J0AL01704 Mot Expiry: Jan 2006
The Z1 was essentially a BMW concept car that was so well received that the sports car was put into production, following in the wheel tracks of such other legendary BMW roadsters as the pre-war 328 and the post-war 507 models. The stunningly styled and highly aerodynamically efficient Z1, though, featured a hot-galvanised monocoque chassis and an all new plastic body with vertically-operated doors, which were and are very novel, vanishing as they do into the side-sills at the touch of a button. Usefully, on a hot day, the Z1 can be driven with the doors down.
This left-hand drive Z1 first left the Munich works in 1990 and came to the UK market via Warwickshire BMW dealers Alan Kerr. The current owner purchased the two-seater from the Gerard Cross dealership of Sytners four years ago after it had been in the previous ownership for five years.
Today, the roadster, which is claimed still to be in superb original condition with unmarked body panels and alloy wheels, has the benefit of having full BMW service history on file. Both green paintwork and lemon interior, trimmed in leather and fabric, are said also to be in excellent condition, whilst the 2494cc capacity six-cylinder 170bhp engine, five-speed manual gearbox and electrical equipment are reportedly all in excellent order.
The 20,900 miles displayed when entered for this sale are believed by the vendor to be the genuine total for this handsome Bavarian with a 0-60mph in 8 seconds and c140mph top speed potential. The current MOT will be valid until the end of next January.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
