Lot details Registration No: JCV406N Chassis No: T.B.A. Mot Expiry: June 2005
Offered here is a VW-Porsche 914, a lefthand drive 2-seater targa-top with 1.8-litre 4-cylinder VW-made motor mounted amidships and, usefully, with luggage compartments in both nose and tail. Production of this joint VW and Porsche model was entrusted to coachbuilders Karmann, who made 115,596 of these 4-cylinder cars 1969-1975.
The engine for the base 914 model came from the VW 411E, being an air-cooled flat-four of 1679cc capacity, though, from 1973, the larger 1795cc engine from the VW 412 was used. Badged as a 914 1.8, this is a US-market, fuel-injected 76bhp car. Only the 914-6, powered by the carburetor-fed 2-litre six from the 911T, which produced 110bhp, was assembled at Porsche where some 3500 completed Karmann bodyshells were fitted with Porsche engines.
The 914 has rear-wheel drive with 5-speed Porsche Type 901 5-speed manual gearbox mounted behind the engine. Suspension is by struts and torsion bars at the front, similar to the Porsche 911, and by trailing arms and coil-over-damper units at the rear. Rack and pinion steering and disc brakes all round complete the technical specification.
Formerly painted in Fiesta Orange, JVC 406N has been in receipt of a windows-out respray in Mauritius Blue metallic. The standard alloys are described as being in better than average condition and the pop-up headlights are said to function correctly. The standard-spec black leathercloth with cloth inserts is reportedly fair and a Blaupunkt radio-cassette fitted. The targa-top stows in the front.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
