The Fritz Feller designed Bentley Mulsanne replaced the T Series in 1980, the new model being slightly longer, wider and lower with 30 per cent greater glass area. In 1982, it was joined by a higher performance Mulsanne Turbo with Garrett turbocharger, which boosted power from 200 to 300 bhp, top speed to 135 mph and brought the 0-60 mph time down to 7.5 sec. The Turbo had a radiator surround in body colour rather than in silver. In 1985, a Turbo R with modified suspension and larger tyres joined the catalogue.
On offer here is one of three Turbo R Bentleys being auctioned here today, the 1987-handbuilt 4-door luxury express being finished in grey with beige interior.
By sale day, the vendor tells us that a new MOT will have been done and interested bidders are advised to check out this certificate in the documents office at Buxton. Already on file are seven old MOTs and full history, many bills indicating no expense spared. The tyres have been freshly renewed, while wheels and badges have been upgraded. There is a mesh grille and, within, are foot stools and sheep skin over-rugs.
The 4-door saloon bodyshell is said to be good with very good paintwork and leather interior in good order. Turbocharged 6750cc V8 motor and automatic transmission are reportedly in good order. The 86,000 kilometers displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
