Lot details Registration No: ANT227A Chassis No: 3712162039 Mot Expiry: Nov 2013
The immortal E-Type made its debut at the Geneva Motorshow of 1961. From birth, the car was available either as a Fixed Head Coupe or a two-seater Roadster. Like the XK120, at launch the new Jaguar was the fastest production car of its time. Production figures vary slightly depending on the source, but approximately 7,669 3.8-litre Fixed Head Coupes were built between 1961 and 1964, only some 1,798 of which were right-hand drive.
This Series 1 E-Type Coupe was delivered new in Spring 1963 to the dealer David Blane of Paisley. Its first owner was a J. Smith of Glasgow and the second a Mr H.A.C. Frost. It has been treated to a number of improvements and upgrades in recent years including: the replacement of the original 3.8-litre engine by a Vintage Sports Engines-supplied 4.2-litre unit; the fitting of a Series 2 bonnet and Webasto sunroof; and the refurbishment of the manual gearbox by Klassik Transmissions. The vendor now describes the Jaguar's bodywork, Signal Red paintwork and Black leather interior trim as "average", the XK engine as "good" and the manual gearbox as "all working". 'ANT 227A' comes complete with Heritage Certificate, various bills for work done, a number of old MOTs and one valid until November 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
