The Suzuki Motor Co. was established in 1909 by Michio Suzuki to produce machinery for the cotton industry. An initial diversification into 4-wheeled transport was curtailed by WW2 but after the war, Japan had a need for cheap reliable transport so Suzuki, like a lot of others around the world, began to produce clip-on engines for pushbikes. These proved to be an immediate success and soon they were making full motorcycles and by the early 60s were second only to Honda in numbers of two-wheelers manufactured. In the early 1970s the GT380, GT550 and GT750 three-cylinder range was launched proving to be 'the last hurrah' for the large capacity two-stroke engine. The GT750 was the first mass-produced water-cooled road bike and formed the basis of the famous 'Flexi Flyer' Formula 750 race bike that set Barry Sheene on the path to world championship glory.

This GT750J in the famous Candy Lavender (sometimes described as Purple or Pink!) colour scheme spent the early part of its life in the USA before being imported into the UK in 2018. In quite a state when it arrived, the vendor sent it renowned Suzuki GT specialist JMC Restorations in the North East who carried out an extensive rebuild costing around £10,000. More or less every element of the bike has had attention including the all important crankshaft overhaul with new seals, a water pump overhaul, new water and SRIS hoses, 4 engine rubber mounts an new clutch plates with the cases cleaned and repolished and finally reassembled with new gaskets. The carbs have been overhauled with a new air box to carbs rubber and the electrics treated to a new wiring loom, the clocks refurbished and the fitting of an Accent electronic ignition. The cosmetics have not been ignored with new paint all round, many items re-plated including the original wheel rims, new seat, chain and sprockets, rear shocks and new tyres front and rear. Currently fitted with a set of expansion chambers, the original 3 into 4 system including the rare tail cones is included in the sale in unrestored condition The bike has only done a few miles since its extensive, and very expensive, restoration and is supplied with various receipts and a current V5C.
