Offered here is a Sylva Phoenix sports, which, though first registered in 1998, is classed as an historic vehicle having been rebuilt from older parts. The well crafted chassis has sophisticated inboard front suspension with lever crank upper wishbones and a multi-link located rear axle.
The Ford crossflow engine has been modified by Phil Jones. The comp-spec includes 711M block with 83.5mm bore and 77.62mm stroke resulting in 1700cc capacity, shot-peened and balanced 2723E crankshaft, steel front pulley, balanced flywheel, heavy-duty Piper oil pump, big-wing Mexico sump, shortpeened and balanced 2723E conrods, cast mains caps, heavy-duty Vandervell bearings, Powermax flat-top pistons, 1FR4 Kent cam, polished and ported big-valve head, high ratio roller rockers, dual valve springs, electronic ignition, DHLA45 carbs on high flow manifold and Tony Law exhaust. Gearbox is a 5-speed Type 9 - diff, a Quaife limited slip.
Current condition of chassis, yellow painted body, black and yellow interior, motor and transmission are all very good, says the owner, not only being very quick, but superb to drive on road and track.
