After almost twenty years in production, Aston Martin's V8 was extensively updated as the Virage for the 1988 Birmingham Show. The narrower body with increased interior space was styled by Ken Greenley and John Heffernan. The existing Lagonda chassis and suspension survived, albeit revised, while Callaway Engineering from the US were responsible for engine development. The former V8's bottom end was retained, though new cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder and hydraulic tappets enabled unleaded compatibility. A mighty 330bhp provided Virage owners with a near 160mph top speed and 0-60mph in under seven seconds!
This right-hand drive Virage first left the Newport Pagnell works in March 1990. Having been in a private collection for the last eight years, the high powered fixed head is said to be in very good all round condition, having only done a believed by the vendor to be 25,400 genuine total mileage when entered.
The ex-factory spec is impressive with air-conditioning, electrically operated and heated seats and a sophisticated alarm system. The two-door comes complete with Aston Martin service history and booklet, bills charting work carried out and old MOTs, the latest current until November. Current condition of chassis and body panels is said to be good, blue paintwork and cream leather also good and 5430cc eight-cylinder motor, five-speed manual transmission and electrical items reportedly in good order.
When you consider the very reasonable estimate for this Virage, you will see what an attractive proposition this model has become, most probably offering the most Aston Martin value for your money.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
