Lot details Registration No: 686 XUW Chassis No: YA12622164 Mot Expiry: N/A
Famous for pioneering CVT (continuously variable transmission) for the small car market and for its much admired heavy trucks, the Dutch manufacturer DAF has also been responsible for numerous types of military vehicle over the years; not least the YA 126 of 1957. Equipped with permanent four-wheel drive, it was powered by a meaty sidevalve, straight-six engine of 4.61-litres that was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The model was available in three basic guises - as a weapons carrier with canvas canopy and room for up to six soldiers and their gear; as a radio vehicle with hardtop; and as an ambulance, with longer platform and hard rather than soft top. There were also special versions for towing, fighting fires etc. Weighing in at 3350kg, it could be driven on a car licence.
The vendor sourced this canvas-topped YA 126 in Holland in 2008 and imported it to the UK the following year. Since acquiring the DAF he has replaced both the cylinder head and the original seats but not connected-up or tested the LPG fuel system installed by a previous keeper. He tells us the bodywork, transmission and engine are in "good" order and the camouflage paintwork "OK". Exempt from the MOT, '686 XUW' is taxed until May 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
