During World War II Innocenti ran a steel tubing factory in the Lambrate district of Milan in northern Italy, producing components for the Italian Air Force and construction. After the war Innocenti needed to find a new product in order to survive. Inspired by the Cushman scooters that the US army imported into Italy Ferdinando Innocenti realised he could apply many of the parts that the factory was already producing to motor scooter production. Innocenti started production of Lambretta scooters in 1947, the year after Piaggio started production of its Vespa models. There are still clubs across the world devoted to the Lambretta scooter. The clubs still participate and organised ride outs and rallies which regularly take place and still have high attendances. Across the UK there are many privately owned scooter shops that deal with everything Lambretta, from sales, services, parts, tuning, performance and complete nut and bolt restorations.

The SX150 first appeared in October 1966 and replaced the 150 Special which had debuted at Milan in 1963. The tuned engine and close-ratio gearbox made for a faster – 95kmh – machine with much-improved acceleration and was a superb all round scooter. The SX150 engine used a 20mm carburettor and used 2 cylinder head gaskets resulting in a slight increase in power to 9.38 HP but with a similar maximum speed to the preceding Special. The SX was presented in new colours and had a chrome strip on the front mudguard. The panels all had the three flashes and a large X150 over the special badge on the front of the leg shield. The rear frame badge reads Lambretta Innocenti on most models and the late models had a rectangular front horn cast badge. Earlier models had a metal tool box and side panel handles while the later SX150’s had plastic DL style version tool boxes and clip on panels. In three years of production there were 31,238 produced and production of the SX150 ceased in January 1969.

Here we present an early and beautifully restored Mela Verde (Apple Green) SX150 which was subject to a very high quality restoration by Disco Dez Scooters. She was imported in 2013 and UK registered on 1st August 2013. Since restoration she has only covered 11km. She is in excellent working order and runs like a new scooter as confirmed by our consultant who rode the scooter during his recent visit.
