An extremely rare small format publication features 51 pages of annotated photographic plates depicting the amazing journey made by Harry Dutton and Murray Aunger, who realised a dream and became the first people to successfully drive from Adelaide to Darwin in their 1908 25 HP Talbot. They tackled dusty tracks, giant sand dunes and swollen outback creeks in their transcontinental trek, without the use of maps or instrumentation. The journey took them 51 days. 42 of those were actual days of driving, leaving them significant time for rest from the tough terrain. The trek took the men through territory that a vehicle had never driven through before. The 1908 effort was the duos second attempt. The first attempt ran into the wet season in 1907. They abandoned that car and purchased another for the following year. This particular title features card covers, a folded map of Australia to the first page & was produced by J.L. Bonython & Co. Printers, Adelaide. Offered in superb original condition.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
