Lot details
Registration No: 709 WHY
Chassis No: GHN334881
Mot Expiry: June 2013

Introduced in May 1962, the MGB featured a monocoque bodyshell and suspension by wishbones and coil springs at the front and a live axle mounted on leaf springs at the rear. Damping was by lever arm units all round and braking by discs at the front and drums at the rear. The newcomer was powered by a 1798cc version of BMC's B-Series engine that produced 95bhp at 5,400rpm. By the time the Roadster line was closed in 1980, a total of 399,070 are said to have been made; a large proportion of which are still providing good service today - not least in historic racing and rallying.

This `home market' 1964 Roadster was apparently restored by an enthusiast owner seven/eight years ago but, according to the vendor, is still in "good condition" - he regards the engine as "very strong", the manual/overdrive gearbox and vinyl trim as "very good" and the bodywork as "good and very sound". Entering the current ownership in 2006, `709 WHY' is understood to have been regularly serviced and maintained since then. Sporting a stainless steel exhaust, it has also been treated to an unleaded cylinder head plus new brake discs, callipers and batteries. The MG is being sold complete with White hardtop and an MOT valid until June 2013 - its odometer currently displays an unwarranted 36,900 miles.
