This 1957-built Riley has been very seriously prepared for long distance rallies of the type that traverse whole continents. Indeed, LRS 466 has successfully competed in the 1999 Monte Carlo Challenge, and 2000 Holden Vintage and Classic 'Classic Marathon' rallies.
In place of the standard equipment Wolseley 2.6 is a C Series six bored +60 thou and of 3-litre capacity. The aluminium cylinder head, ported, gas-flowed and fitted with big valves, is unleaded fuel friendly. Triple 2in SUs are fitted, as are a handmade exhaust manifold and exhaust system in stainless steel, while the camshaft is of fast road profile and the larger capacity radiator has a Kenlowe fan.
The comprehensive spec. includes a 5-speed Getrag gearbox, coil over telescopic shock absorbers all round, front disc brakes, 16in wheels, long range fuel tank, bonnet and boot in aluminium, Recaro type front seats with rear seating converted to provide storage underneath, a half roll cage and air horns.
Current condition of 4-door saloon bodywork, which is painted blue, is described as being good as is the grey interior. Both engine and gearbox are reportedly in excellent order.
The odometer, indicating 3502 miles when entered, is believed to have been reset following the conversion when total mileage was around 52,000. The MOT is current until October and, because of its age, this Riley rally car qualifies for a free-of-charge tax disc, the present one is street legal until December.
