1956 Austin-Healey 100 Modified to M Specification
Lot details Registration No: 609 APF Chassis No: BN2229013 Mot Expiry: Exempt
According to its accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, this particular example - chassis BN2/229013 - was built on 27th October 1955 and supplied new via Wimbledon Motor Works Ltd of London SW19. The vendor believes but does not warrant that the Austin-Healey was upgraded to 100M specification in period. His reasoning being that the car's continuation logbook which was issued on 11th December 1961 lists two engine numbers both of which end with a `M' suffix. The same document shows that the two-seater belonged to Brian May of Kingston Vale SW15 (and later Ripley) from 1960 - 1974 and to Timothy Taylor-Roberts of SW19 from 1974 - date unknown. Entering the current ownership during July 1998, `609 APF' was subsequently entrusted to marque specialist J.M.E. Healey of Leamington Spa for an extensive restoration. As well as a bare metal bodywork refurbishment and thorough engine overhaul (reground crank, re-bore, new timing chain, unleaded cylinder head conversion, fresh 100M pistons etc), the two-seater received attention to its chassis, suspension, steering, four-speed manual gearbox, overdrive, interior trim, hood, brakes and instruments etc. Finished in Red with Black upholstery, this desirable home-market BN2 appears to have covered just 466 post-refurbishment miles and is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork.
