Lot details Registration No: GGT 775 Chassis No: 29D8418 Mot Expiry: June 2005
The Riley 12hp was the last model to be made by the Coventry manufacturer before the second World War. Claimed to be very rare is this 1939-built 12hp Type 29D, one of only five known to the Riley MC, two of which are said to be resident in the Southern Hemisphere. The righthand drive 2-door drophead coupe provided the first owner, a London Doctor, with four full-size seats, a decent boot and 55-60mph cruising speed. Thirteen further owners are recorded in the original and continuation logbooks.
Extensive restoration has been carried out during the last two ownerships, the work completed in 1996, since when GGT 775 has been regularly, though sparingly exercised during the summer months. The original engine has been rebuilt including reboring and remetalling. More recently, another set of timing gears has been fitted, which should become quieter once bedded-in. The suspension has been rebushed and kingpins replaced and additional flashing indicators fitted with original trafficators retained and operational. A stainless exhaust and auxiliary electric fan have been fitted.
Any future keeper has the benefit of a VSCC-issued buff eligibility form enabling participation in many events. By separate negotiation between vendor and purchaser, some body panels are available. Potential owners should also be aware that this Riley is being auctioned entirely without reserve, so the highest bid made today will buy the motor car. That next owner could be you!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
