Lot details Registration No: JJK 146 Chassis No: 101473 Mot Expiry: Jan 2006
The Daimler and Lanchester Club, who have listed the car within their SP250 Register, confirm that this sportscar was completed at the factory 15 July 1960, the open two-seater finished in red and first supplied to the Dorking Motor Company 19 July. Club information confirms that engine, chassis and body numbers match factory records.
According to past receipts in possession of the current owner, including himself, it would appear that there have been only four owners, in one of whose hands a substantial overhaul was carried out. He has owned it from 1 June 1993, since when the car has been driven at the weekends on a regular basis for no more than 2000 miles per year and has always been garaged. It is only being sold, he says, so that he can experience another classic sportscar.
The chassis is claimed to be sound, whilst some crazing to the GRP bodywork is not untypical for a car of this age. There are a few stone chips to the red paintwork, which is rated as being generally good, as the original black leather interior - and, although three studs are missing, the mohair hood was renewed in 2000 and a tonneau cover is included.
The 2.5-litre V8 is reportedly in good order, displaying oil pressure as per service manual and burning little oil. The four-speed manual gearbox is said to be in good condition with the benefit of overdrive on third and fourth and the electrics sound. The vendor believes the 87,340 miles displayed when entered to be the genuine total.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
