Aeronautical manufacturer Aermacchi, like their fellow aircraft manufacturer and rival Piaggio identified motorcycle production as being a viable means of surviving in the years following the Second World War, anticipating a need for economical transport that would aid the Italian economy's recovery.
They employed former Benelli designer Lino Tonti with a brief to design a lightweight machine which was displayed for the first time in 1950. The new model was powered by a 123cc two stroke engine built in unit with a three speed gearbox. The engine unit was mounted to the open frame by a pivot above the gearbox and the twin exhaust pipes and silencers formed the swinging arm. The front forks were of a leading link type, 17 inch wheels were fitted fore and aft. The fuel tank was mounted under the saddle extending towards the rear of the machine, whilst a dummy tank was mounted between the headstock and saddle post serving as a toolbox. With 5bhp on tap from the two stroke single the machine was capable of 47mph and achieved a reasonable degree of success.
This example is described as being in good condition throughout having been the subject of a restoration carried out during 2010. It is offered with Swansea V5C, a dating letter from the Italian Vintage Company, an Mot certificate valid until February 2012 and a road fund licence valid to the same date.
PLEASE NOTE: The dating letter from the Italian vintage Company is not present in the history file.
