Lot details Registration No: 456 BBK Chassis No: B82000030DHS0 Mot Expiry: May 2007
Introduced in October 1958, the new 'Series' (as opposed to 'Mark') Super Snipe was flagship of the contemporary Humber range. The marque's first six-cylinder car to be based around a monocoque bodyshell, it featured independent coil-sprung front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and servo-assisted brakes. Available in saloon, limousine and estate guises, all variants shared the same transatlantic styling cues. Progressively developed, the model gained a larger 2965cc engine, Girling front discs and a quad headlamp facelift before the penultimate Series IV version was unveiled during October 1963. Boasting more horsepower (124bhp @ 5,000rpm) and a lighter 9-inch Borg & Beck clutch, the newcomer was reputedly capable of 100mph. A perennial favourite among businessmen and politicians alike, its luxurious cabin was bedecked with good quality hides and highly polished wood veneers.
Finished in green with a contrasting white roof and green leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 2965cc six-cylinder engine, three-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly with its original keeper from October 1962 until entering the current (second) ownership in September 2005, '456 BBK' is said to have been treated to a £7,500 mechanical / bodywork refurbishment during 2003. Believed but not warranted to have covered just 55,000 miles from new (a figure partially substantiated by an accompanying 2003 insurance declaration which records the total mileage then at 51,500), the Humber reputedly retains its "original handbook and tool kit". Riding on steel wheels, this well cared for 'Series' Super Snipe is offered for sale with a 'Classicline Insurance Services' valuation for £5,500 (2003), MOT certificate valid until May 2nd 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until April 30th 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
