Craig Vetter's take on the BSA Rocket 3 / Triumph Trident concept, their first ever factory custom bike commissioned to improve sales in the states, does not look out dated even nearly 40 years after it's birth. Acres of chrome, a sunburst of yellow and red paintwork with its restrained chopper styling only needs a union flag flying from the back to complete the Yankee doodle dandy effect. Of the total 1100 produced about 100 of the X75 Hurricane models turned up at a recent Beezumph rally, very appropriate, as if there ever was a BSA/Triumph hybrid this is it, and what a sight and sound they made lined up at the Cadwell circuit ( only one wouldn't start). The basis of the Hurricane, the Rocket three, a 122 mph. lusty roadburner if well sorted, was rushed into production in reaction to the imminent arrival of Honda's 750/4. Heavy and thirsty, expensive to build and maintain and wanting in many respects, all the versions have their enthusiastic followers today, particularly the Hurricane, and its rarity has seen prices 'rocket' in recent years in line with many other superbikes.
This lovely example is a 1973 model Vetter X75 Hurricane 750/3 5 speed triple, imported from Orlando duty paid by the owner in 2008 it was completely recommissioned with a major service at that time. The bike was also partly restored in 2011 and still has the original engine showing only 15000 miles. Chromium parts replaced at the time, but which are still serviceable, are included in the sale. It has Swansea v5, dating certificate and is taxed and mot tested to September 2012. Declared by the vendor to be excellent in all respects with the mileage warranted and ignition upgraded to Boyer electronics, this is a rare and ideal opportunity for the buyer to enjoy the fruits of Hurricane ownership.
