Lot details Registration No: DUJ204B Chassis No: 130308 Mot Expiry: July 2005
The first production Porsche was the rear-engined 356 (named as such because of being job 356 in the Porsche studio portfolio at Gmund) with steel platform chassis and torsion bars, trailing links at the front and swing axles at the rear.
Offered here is a 1964-built 356C coupe. A US import four years ago, the lefthand drive fixed head has been much admired, says the owner, who tells us that it has been driven regularly, performing well, proving to be economical and running well on unleaded fuel as well as coping with any distance without problems. He claims that the 6 volts electrics work well as does the heater. A £95 heavy-duty battery has been fitted recently and an original specification Blaupunkt radio is included, although this will need connecting. All four tyres have been recently renewed, too, with new Firestones, although there is no spare wheel.
The vendor tells us that the German classic has been serviced recently, while the bodyshell is in good shape with panels, repainted some two years ago in red, said to be in very good condition and free of blemishes. The black vinyl trim is claimed to be both original and good, including the headlining, the dashboard repainted, while the 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine is reportedly in excellent order and the four-speed manual transmission very good. The current tax disc is valid until June and the MOT certificate will not need renewing until next July.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
