Birmingham Small Arms made two main versions of their trademark and very British parallel twin - the 1946-introduced 500cc A7, further updated in 1951, and the 1950 650cc A10, both of which earned for themselves a reputation for reliability, holding their oil and being relatively economical rather than for their performance or for having a particularly sporty appearance. For the 1962 model season, replacement 500cc A50 and 650cc A65 models with unit-construction engines and gearboxes BSA dealer showrooms.
The original A10 was the Golden Flash, updated in 1954 with swing-arm rear suspension in place of plunger type, whilst other A10s included more powerful and faster Super Flash and Road Rocket models. In 1958, BSA launched the A10S or Super Rocket, whose air-cooled, overhead four-valve, pushrod twin produced 43bhp and could go 105mph.
This particular Super Rocket, which first left the Small Heath, Birmingham, works in 1958, has been recently restored with paintwork in red and black and wheels renewed. The vendor claims that the 646cc two-cylinder machine, which comes with both a current V5 registration document and an MOT test pass certificate valid until August, also runs well.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
