The late JLH Joyce was the younger of two farming brothers from North Bedfordshire. An avid lifelong motoring and mechanical enthusiast, he combined a passion for interesting motor cars with a love of steam traction engines. We understand this car, which he purchased in 1991, left the factory in 1939 although according to the logbook it was not registered until June 1944. In 1992 Mr Joyce entrusted the car to renowned restorers Hillier Hill and we are indebted to one of the executors for the following information: "Once the body had been removed Hillier Hill stripped the car down to the chassis and commenced a painstaking rebuild which took the next five years to complete. The engine was stripped, checked and parts replaced as necessary. A total rewire was carried out to original wire values and colour coded as per the original RR build specification, then wrapped in braid with correct terminal ends and connectors. Meanwhile, the body was undergoing a similar strip down. Once completed, the interior was treated to new Wilton carpet and new leather upholstery. All chrome items were triple chromed. Hugely detailed invoices accompanying the car show the extent of the work to the value of over £90,000. Also present is a photographic record of the mechanical work carried out."
Approximately two thousand miles have been covered since including a trip to the RREC Annual Rally following completion where it won 2 first class awards. Now ready to be enjoyed by a new custodian, WEC 27, finished in yellow and black with blue leather, is offered with toolkit, Swansea V5 document, invoices from Hillier Hill and Unit 4 Restorations together with an album of photographs.
