Lot details Registration No: ETF 29V Chassis No: 11602422156337 Mot Expiry: July 2007
Introduced in 1972, the W116 was flagship of the contemporary Mercedes-Benz range. A true super saloon it offered unparalleled levels of safety, interior space, handling, performance and ride. Equipped with all round independent suspension (McPherson strut front, semi-trailing arm rear), disc brakes and power assisted steering, engine sizes varied from a modest 2.8 litre straight six to an extravagant 6.9 litre V8.
Finished in Aquamarine Blue with mushroom half leather / fabric upholstery, this particular 280SE saloon is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (electrical equipment, chassis, wheels / tyres), "very good" (automatic gearbox, paintwork), "very good - reconditioned 2001" (2746cc straight-six engine) or "superb" (interior trim) condition. Though, he notes that the "good" bodywork nevertheless requires some "minor attention". Said to have had just four private owners (the last of whom kept it for six months), 'ETF 29V' is believed but not warranted to have covered 138,000 miles from new. Reportedly benefiting from an "original service schedule complete up to 120,245 miles", the Mercedes-Benz is also accompanied by "almost all MOT certificates from 1983 to present" and "licence discs 1981-2003 plus 2005". Riding on alloy wheels, this smart saloon is offered for sale with "service and maintenance bills for approximately £28,000" and MOT certificate valid until July 12th 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
