Lot details Registration No: BMV298Y Chassis No: 126022-22-081911 Mot Expiry: March 2006
Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1979, the new W126 S-class was a quantifiable improvement over its W116 predecessor. Lauded by the contemporary motoring press as the 'best car in the world', it was not only lighter than its forebear but also offered an improved ride and sharper handling. Styled by Bruno Sacco, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of powerful all alloy V8 engines (later supplemented by more fuel efficient straight sixes). Still a staple part of many a diplomatic fleet, the W126 remains sought after to this day thanks to its impeccable build quality and timeless lines.
Finished in blue with grey cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in either excellent (paintwork, bodywork) or 'as new' (engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, wheels / tyres) condition. Powered by a 2,746cc dohc straight-six engine mated to four-speed automatic transmission, the ultra-low mileage of 4,755 displayed on its odometer is reputedly confirmed by "the service book and MOTs". Reportedly purchased directly from Mercedes-Benz in Germany by its first owner Mr A Ali Reza of London, it is further said to have been "housed in an air conditioned garage" together with "a number of other superb vehicles including Bentleys, Jensen FF etc all with next to no miles recorded". An unusual find, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until 24th March 2006 and sundry paperwork.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
