The Birmingham Small Arms Company of Birmingham began making motorcycles in 1910, by the late 1920s BSA had become not only the UK's number one bike maker, but also the largest in the world. The first BSA car, a three-wheeler with 1021cc v-twin driving the front wheels, emerged from their Small Heath, Birmingham, motorcycle works, and four-wheeled BSAs followed.
The 1935 introduced four-wheeled Scout was initially made with a two-seater sports body with the same 1075cc four-cylinder engine as the preceding T9 and dual-tone colour scheme as on the firm's De Luxe three-wheelers. For the 1936 model season, the Scout gained a larger capacity 1203cc motor as well as four-seater tourer and fixed head coupe bodywork options to supplement the two-seater. Drophead coupe and two-door sports saloon bodied versions on a longer wheelbase chassis were available with the 1938 Series 6 Scout.
This BSA Scout, a tourer for four with a reportedly 10hp four-cylinder engine and three-speed plus reverse manual gearbox, was made in 1937. We understand from the entrant that the open four-seater has been resident in Holland for a while before coming home again. On file, though, are an original buff logbook, handbooks, old invoices and letters from the BSA Owners Club to a previous owner verifying the model, year of manufacture and ex-factory specification.
Finished in red with red vinyl interior, and with latest MOT pass certificate valid until May of next year, the current condition of this character pre-war sporting motor car is described by the vendor as being all good for its age.
