The Silver Spur was the name given to the long wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit. Penned by Fritz Feller, these opulent newcomers were unveiled at the 1980 Paris Salon and a welcome replacement for the long-serving Silver Shadow. They were lower and longer than their predecessor and, courtesy of finely-tuned hydraulic self-levelling suspension, said to provide the best roadholding so far offered by any Rolls-Royce. There were a total of four iterations, the second of which boasted ABS, Automatic Ride Control, fuel injection and an updated facia with additional air vents (just 1,659 Spur IIs were reputedly made).
This Spur II is a one owner example purchased new by a prominent eye surgeon in October 1990 for £99,186.90. The Rolls-Royce is finished in special order Acrylic Larkspur that's complemented by a Dark Blue Everflex roof and Beige leather interior, and the car is equipped with toughened glass and a high-level brake light. Always garaged, it is regarded by the vendor as having "overall good" bodywork and paintwork, "excellent" interior trim and "good" V8 engine. The latter was last serviced just 200 miles ago by Bentley Hampshire and the Spur comes complete with: original bill of sale from Jack Barclay, a pair of stamped service books, new battery, and an MOT valid until April 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
