Following the blitzing of Coventry, post-WW2 Triumph production resumed just outside the bombed out motor city at Meriden, where a long list of classic twins - Tiger, Thunderbird, Daytona and Bonneville - were produced, all directly related to Edward Turner's first Triumph Speed Twin of 1937.
The 3TA was Triumph's tourer in miniature, a mild-mannered 350cc 2-cylinder machine which pioneered unit-construction for Meriden in 1957. Originally, the 3TA was fitted with rear bodywork, extensive for the time and soon famously to become known as the 'Bathtub', although some owners discarded the bodywork as, indeed, later the factory did too. Later, a higher compression sports version, the Tiger 90, was produced, though with twin still fed by a single carburettor.
Unusually, the 1959-made 3TA in blue offered here still has matching engine and frame numbers, though the appearance is non-standard. The seller describes the 350cc special as "a little goer", a rider's machine through and through, with the twin-leading shoe front brake a worthwhile modification. Included are an old green logbook and a current V5.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
