Ferrari's mid-engined, flat-12 Testarossa was unveiled to an expectant media at the Lido nightclub on the eve of the 1984 Paris Salon. Though an evolution of the 512BBi, it had a markedly different appearance. The Testarossa name (Italian for 'red head') was an echo of Ferrari's Testa Rossa sports racing cars of the 1950s and the engine's cam covers were painted red, as before. The five-litre Colombo-designed unit was very similar to that of the 512BBi, but featured four-valves per cylinder. Together with other improvements, this resulted in an output of 390bhp - sufficient to power the Prancing Horse to 60mph in just over five seconds and on to a 180mph top speed. The Testarossa reigned for seven years, before metamorphosing into the 512TR and finally the 512M.
This right-hand drive 1987 Testarossa sports Maranello Red paintwork coupled with Black leather upholstery - however, for those who prefer something lighter in tone, the vendor is offering an alternative Cream leather one with Red carpets for an additional £3,500-4,000. He regards the existing trim as "fair", the bodywork and paintwork as "okay" and the car's 12-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission as "good". The Ferrari is being sold complete with all original manuals, service book etc, plus the registration 'B2 BBL' and a fresh MOT.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until 18th July 2012.
