This example of the illustrious Manx Norton left Bracebridge Street during 1953 and according to information supplied by the vendor was delivered to Tom Davis of Manchester who used the engine in a Kieft F3 car, before passing to Cooper Troon in complete form and then Mr Potts of Bellshill. The chassis was then used to house engines undergoing development by Bob McIntyre and Bill Roberton. During 1957/8 it changed hands again, now with a blown up 500cc engine, when it was part exchanged for a 350cc Gold Star and spares and moved to Gray St Lochee where it was rebuilt by S Topen who subsequently raced it as the "Topen Norton Special" over the next three years. Between 1973 and 1997 the machine was idle in store before being rebuilt using a combination of original Manx and Summerfield parts. The frame dates from 1953 and is fitted with Fontana front hub and original rear. Original Manx crankcases housing are fitted with a Summerfield barrel and cambox and Petty head. An Amal GP carburettor meters the fuel/air mixture and an original SR magneto provides the sparks. A Bob Newby clutch and belt primary drive transmits the power to a Summerfield gearbox. The vendor informs us that the engine and gearbox were rebuilt by the previous owner and describes the cycle parts and cosmetics as being in good condition.
