Lotus was founded in Tottenham Lane, Hornsey, by the late Colin Chapman who started making his own competition specials, but, which were so successful that soon others wanted to buy his creations. His first pop-Lotus was the VI sports, the forerunner of the mainly Ford powered Lotus VII, which, as the Caterham in all its various and even higher powered guises is still going strong today.
Before his death in 1982, by when he made become a major sportscar maker at Hethel in Norfolk, Chapman had gone on to conquer the F1 world with his Team Lotus GP cars that were driven by all the truly great racing drivers of their, works Lotus drivers including Clark, Hill, Peterson, Mansell, Piquet and Senna.
This righthand drive Seven MkIII sports was manufactured by Lotus in 1969. We understand that TRP 352G has been in receipt of a back-to-chassis restoration by specialist F Coltman and is powered by an Oselli-built Ford 1600 crossflow. Since acquisition at one of our auctions in 1999, the vendor says that the sportscar has always been garaged, subjected to minimal mileage, regularly serviced and annually MOT-tested. Two sets of wheels are included.
Current condition of chassis and body panels in aluminium and GRP are described as very good with BRG and yellow paintwork claimed to be very good, and Ford motor and 4-speed manual gearbox both reportedly also in very good order. Genuine Lotus Sevens from the Chapman era rarely come under the hammer.
