The nowadays Russian entrepreneur owned TVR owes its beginnings to one Trevor Wilkinson, who, in 1947 in his home town of Blackpool, set up a small motor business, Trevcar Motors, and built and sold on a succession of his specials on a word of mouth basis. By 1954, his TVR (so named after initials taken from his Christian name Trevor) Engineering started marketing kit cars employing GRP bodies. Financial stability did not occur for the North West's car firm until the Lilley family acquired the business in 1965. For many years, most TVRs were bought in Purchase Tax avoiding kit form until the dreaded VAT was levied on everything and all cars were factory-finished.
This TVR, a potent and extremely rapid Tuscan V8 righthand drive lwb-racer, first left the Blackpool works in 1969. The ex-Howard Brearley car has clocked up several race victories over the years as well as being the winner of the 1998 Flemings Championship. More recently, form has been maintained by successful eventing at Chimay in Belgium and a 2003 race win at the historic Phoenix Park circuit in Dublin.
Currently, chassis and GRP bodywork in yellow condition are described as being very good with black interior and alloy wheels also good, whilst 5-litre eight is reportedly in very good order and four-speed manual transmission is said to work well. Entirely practical for race participation, this Tuscan would also appear to be absolutely on-the-button for plenty more weekend action.
