BSA introduced their first "Sloper" model for 1927, setting a trend that would be copied by most of their rivals over the next decade and helping them to state that "one in four" is a BSA in the advertising. The new machine employed a 493cc single port four stroke single with an inclined cylinder and overhead valves. Offering good performance and handsome looks it quickly established itself as favourite with riders. As the decade drew to a close BSA further enhanced the models attractive lines with the addition of a twin port head and twin exhausts terminating in "Brookland" can style silencers.
The example offered was purchased by the vendor from a friend's father during 2004 shortly after he passed away. The original logbook enabled the vendor to retrace the with the second owner who had purchased the machine in 1964 from a gentleman in Barnsley. As a result of the vendor contacting the Barnsley Chronicle the paper ran a story regarding the machine which resulted in a neighbour of the first owner contacting the vendor resulting in the vendor making contact with the first owner's family. Further research resulted in contact with the fourth owner's brother in law.
While researching the machines history, which is included with the Sloper the vendor undertook its restoration, completing it to such a standard that it secured "Best in Show" awards at the 2007 VMCC Banbury Run, The Woodcote Classic and Steam rally of 2009, the 2008 VMCC Berkshire Show, the 2007 Southend Classic Bike Show and the 2006 BSA Owners Club Thames Valley Show as well as completing the Banbury Run. Described as being in "perfect" condition throughout this glorious example is offered with details of the machines history, its original buff log book, a Swansea V5C, a BSA Owners Club Dating Certificate and a tax disc valid until March 2014.
