Lot details Registration No: R983FKO Chassis No: L5125003598 Mot Expiry: July 2008
Harry Hockly Motorsport grew out of the preparation work that its founder did for Vauxhall - with whom he took three consecutive British Open Championship category wins - during the mid 1980s. Approached by Daihatsu to create twenty identical cars for a one make rally series to be held during 1988, the company duly obliged. Based around the Japanese K-class compliant Cuore Avanzato, the resultant machines boasted an advanced specification. Powered by a turbocharged 650cc four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine allied to five-speed manual transmission, they also benefited from all-round independent suspension and permanent four-wheel drive. While, safety equipment included a roll cage, intercom system, high-backed bucket seats (complete with race harnesses) and braided brake hoses etc.
Finished in white with numerous sponsors' decals, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "all OK" (electrical equipment, wheels / tyres), "good" (five-speed manual gearbox, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork) or "very good" (engine) condition. Prepared by Harry Hockly Motorsport for the 1998 Daihatsu Rally Challenge, 'R983 FKO' is further understood to have competed in the Pioneer 2000 Daihatsu Rally Challenge achieving some notable finishes along the way. Still bearing its '46' rally numbers, this well campaigned 'pocket rocket' is apparently road legal. Believed but not warranted to have covered 10,000 miles from new, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until July 2008 and four spare rally wheels / tyres.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
