Lot details Registration No: G344UAL Chassis No: G20006745 Mot Expiry: March 2008
Introduced at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, the S-Cargo Van was designed by The Pike Factory (an in-house special projects group at Nissan). As practical yet quirky looking as the Citroen 2CV Camionette that had inspired it (hence the play on the French word for snail, Escargot), the new Nissan was based around a capacious three-door monocoque bodyshell fitted with all-round independent suspension (strut front / multi-link rear), power assisted rack and pinion steering and disc / drum brakes. Propelled by a 1487cc SOHC four-cylinder engine allied to three-speed automatic transmission, the diminutive van was unexpectedly fun to drive. While its standard equipment included air conditioning and a removable rear seat. Only available to the Japanese Domestic Market as a limited edition, the S-Cargo remained in production until 1992 by which time some 12,000 had been made. A sign of its cult status, the oddball Nissan has been featured in the Gran Turismo computer game series.
Finished in yellow with grey upholstery, this particular 'grey import' example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres (though, he considers the interior trim to be "fair"). Showing an unwarranted 133,418 KM (approximately 83,200 miles) to its odometer 'G344 UAL' rides on alloy wheels. Unfortunately, the Nissan's optional powered canvas sunroof is not working at the moment (a failure that the seller ascribes to fabric shrinkage rather than an electrical fault). Well suited to being either a high-impact promotional vehicle or an inexpensive fun car, this rare S-Cargo is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until March 15th 2008.
PLEASE NOTE: Unlike some S-Cargo vans, 'G344 UAL' is not fitted with electric windows or central locking.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
